You need to compile a kernel module called svgalib_helper.o
If you downloaded the svgalib-1.9.17 source go into the
kernel/svgalib_helper directory, and then run make.  That will make the
kernel module: svgalib_helper.o.  To load the module run insmod
svgalib_helper.o
